I absolutely agree with you: Firefox 3 is significantly better at memory management and JavaScript performance than its predecessor.

That doesn't mean that Camino leaks and doesn't release memory to the same degree as FF2. In any case, I certainly will be looking forward to updates to Camino that add in FF3 features such as the new Gecko engine and better memory management.

However, for the time being, in a comparison on the Mac between Camino 1.6, Safari 3.1, and Firefox 3 Beta 5, I prefer Camino.

Much of the CSS3 stuff hasn't been finalized, Fx3 doesn't implement much of it until the standards are finalized, probably Fx4 will support it fully. I use a broadband connection and even then, Fx3 is noticable faster and this is well documented by other bloggers on the net. Fx2 is obsolete and cannot compete with Fx3 at all. I didn't bring up the Javascript performance benchmarks because everyone knows how much faster Fx3 is at that, and AJAX heavy pages which is the norm now.

Firefox 2 leaks memory badly and doesn't release memory, even if you run it with zero add-ons/extensions installed. This is well documented, you can search on the Internet many articles and screenshots showing Fx2 using up to 1GB of RAM or even more because of the memory leaks after a few hours. With Firefox 3, this is non issue now.

Certainly Firefox 3 has better standards support than the older Gecko engine used in FF2 and Camino. However, it's hard to argue that this is an important part of any daily browsing experience since CSS 3 and the associated standards are so new that they aren't used in anything but demo pages. Instead, most pages are built around the rendering capabilities of Gecko 1.8 in FF2 which Camino supports flawlessly.

As far a page rendering speed, I don't notice any appreciable differences between FF2, FF3, Safari, or Camino. This may be different if you connect via a slower connection, but on the fat pipes I use at both work and, to a lesser extent, at home there is not a noticeable difference.

Your final point about memory usage is more of a dicey one. First of all, FF2 was a memory hog on all platforms. However, the memory issue was made more complex because many of the problems were attributed to sloppy code in the add-ons and plug-ins in Firefox. FF3 claims to fix many of the memory issues in its predecessor (and certainly it makes great strides in this area) but it remains to be seen if add-on and plug-in support drags this area of performance down again. On the other hand, I haven't had too many problems with Camino being a hog in the long time that I've been using it. It certainly never feels slow and unresponsive as you claim.

Long term memory management, though still important in browsers, is less of an issue in the current generation of browsers in any case because they all have session support. So, if you notice slow performance after a few days, simply quit your browser and relaunch it. The program will remember all the tabs and windows you had open so, as long as you weren't in the middle of filling out a form, you'll be back right where you left off with a lower memory footprint. For me at least, this eliminates many of the memory usage concerns with any browser.

Firefox 3 blows away Firefox 2 and Camino when it comes to the important parts, page rendering speed, memory usage and open web standards support. But it seems Mac users are more concerned over UI and other fluff instead.

Camino 1.6 still uses the same old Gecko 1.8 engine as Firefox 2, so all the problems and slow, unresponsive feel is there, even if it's a natively built Cocoa app.

Unfortunately, Feist is being heard in places other than iPod commercials. I heard her in Marshalls and H&M, both clothing stores. Are you pissed with the $200 drop on the iPhone? $100 credit isn't so bad though...

Feist is just great but you just can't blame her for taking care of business. Music can be fantastic when you listen to it with rapture and then listen to something else. Listening to anybody, even Feist, over and over becomes a sound like the brushing of leaves on the window screen. I do hope Feist doesn't become the background noise of pop life.

Oh, and we all want to be in on the game before anyone else discovered a musician don't we? I found her before you, right?

Congrats on the move! Now time to settle in and explore the craziness of cleaning your bathroom!

Thanks for the compliments on the review. It was a good show. Alex doesn't look as hot as a blonde as she does as a brunette. But I will let all the East Coast Males know that your on top of the list. The new drummer is just as good. Let me know how they do on the west coast?

Guess who is playing here in September? That's right, Sia! I will be going this time. Hopefully tickets don't sell out too quickly.

This should have been an email but fuck it! You look like you need a comment on this blog. Hope all is well with you.

I got this album via iTunes and it's pretty good I think! Not quite as good as their last, but some quality tracks overall. I am going to go see them in October, and am so excitd. Remember when we saw them last year? It makes me miss you all the way on the other side of the US and sad that we did not get a chance to hang out really much this year :(

Yay, Stars, I've been waiting for news of this, how wonderful to hear!

Speaking of new albums, have you heard anything about Jem yet?? All I know is that in September/December she said it would be out in early 2007, and now it is halfway through 2007 with no release date or even any updates. Gah.

Camino crashes a lot when I try to move the window around on the desktop or often when I try to print a page. It is really random. I like it but I really don't sometimes.

<p>Yeah, I'm behind on Lost (as well as Battlestar) but I've heard that Lost got better.</p>

I don't think setting the episode limit on Lost will help that much though. There will still be crap episodes.

If you've watched LOST recently, it has actually exploded into wonderfulness again, at least that's the opinion of most people I know. Furthermore, by making LOST have a definied amount of episodes and seasons left, I think some of the filler will be dropped... Also, I've found that filler episodes I was not so much a fan of tend to give information that we don't realize we'd want/need until later, because it is so intricate.

Aparently, Joker also believes in Harvey Dent -- <a href="http://www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com/" rel="nofollow">I Believe in Harvey Dent Too</a>

A picture of Joker has also been released, which can be found on Cinematical's website.

I like the teasers. It's getting me really hyped for the movie.

Yes I have heard of this. I honestly believe Spider-Man should never sing. NEVER!

Anyway, few tidbits I wanted to share with you on behalf of Spider-Man week in NYC. There is this really cool display of human-sized figures of Venom, Green-Goblin, and one other villain (can't recall who it was) by my job. It looks awesome. If you want, on Saturday, I can take you to show you. I think you will be able to appreciate it. Also, May 5 is Free Comic Book Day. Go in to a supporting Comic Book Vendor and Get a Free Comic Book. It's that Simple. Woo Hoo! <a href="http://www.freecomicbookday.com/" rel="nofollow">Free Comic Book Day</a>
