The Crazy Ones

This is my favorite picture from all the Anniversary stuff. Thanks to Mike Evangelist.

Steve & Steve

I like to think of it as ‘The Crazy Ones:’

Here’s to the crazy ones.

The misfits.

The rebels.

The troublemakers.

The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently.

They’re not fond of rules.

And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them,

disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.

Because they change things.

They invent. They imagine. They heal.

They explore. They create. They inspire.

They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?
Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written?
Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

We make tools for these kinds of people.

While some see them as the crazy ones,
we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think
they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Happy 30th Birthday Apple!

I love you!

Be sure to check out the coverage around the web:

Wired: Apple at 30. Highlights: a photo gallery of every Apple (hardware) product and a page of the best Steve Jobs quotes.

San Francisco Chronicle: Apple at 30 Highlights: A long profile of Jobs and some podcast interviews with historical Apple figures including The Woz (ignoring the article discussed here though).

And just about every other Mac website too.

Predictions for Tomorrow’s Apple Media Event

Apple will announce some “fun new products” today (as noted here). In the grand tradition of predicting what Steve will do, here are my bets:

  1. iPod Boombox: These little things are cash cows and Apple wants a piece of the pie, but I would expect some differences from the ones already on the market.
  2. Intel Mac mini: Probably with a Core Single (perhaps a Duo on the high end) and including Front Row functionality. I’m hoping for even more multimedia options like DVR and iPod docking but I’m not holding my breath since these features would increase the cost beyond Apple’s low target price point. It’s possible we’ll see a Mac mini A/V or something as a higher end option at some point, but again I don’t expect this.
  3. More iPod accessories like the FM Tuner Remote and Socks: again, this kind of stuff is a cash cow for Apple.

Steve Speaks!

Steve Jobs set a few things straight today despite not giving a keynote at the Apple Expo in Paris. MacWorld has an extensive article about what he had to say. My favorite bit is when he talks about the music labels wanting to change the pricing on iTunes, “If they want to raise prices they are getting greedy.” I’m not a religious man, but I think that’s worth an amen.
