NIN: Year Zero on the Radar
Nine Inch Nails is releasing a new album (Halo 24?) titled Year Zero on April 17 (album cover here). The single, ‘Survivalism’ is already playing on the radio, on MySpace (boo). To top it off for NINites(?) Beside You in Time (Halo 22), the live performance film of the 2006 With Teeth tour, comes out this Tuesday (2/27).
Is it just me or does this almost feel too easy on fans after the huge gaps between previous full studio album (for example, nearly 6 years between The Fragile and With Teeth)? I’m happy about it nevertheless though.
Update (2/24/07): There’s a big underground viral-marketing online and offline clue hunt (I’d say it was very MacHeist-esque but they didn’t really invent the idea) going on to reveal details about the new album. Rolling Stone provides a nice summary of the very complex goings on.
It seems like Trent and company are really into the whole visual distortion thing. It started with the updated NIN logo for With Teeth but all those other sites are really taking it to the next level (highlighting the text does wonders btw).
Final note, thanks to a little BitTorrent love you can can download some of the new tracks.

http://anotherversionofthetruth.com/ – interesting website.
This puzzle is mind boggling but interesting nonetheless.
I think this new album is going to take some getting used to. Survivalism sounds catchy, which makes sense considering it is the single. I also like the new term, Survivalism, which is something I definitely would support. As for the other trackcs, I like the aggressive outbursts of beats in My Violent Heart and the electronic beats in Me, I’m not. He definitely has moved away from his Downward Spiral Days. In fact, I think it’s quite different from With Teeth as well. Regardless, Trent still rocks.
Also, note, The Fragile came out 6-7 years after The Downward Spiral was released. But he has admitted that was due to writers block.

Here’s a mini release calendar (excluding single/remix albums):
Pretty Hate Machine [LP] – October 20, 1989
Broken [EP] – September 22, 1992
The Downward Spiral [LP] – March 8, 1994
The Fragile [LP] – September 21, 1999
With Teeth [LP] – May 3, 2005
Year Zero [LP] – April 17, 2007
So yeah, Year Zero is one of the shortest. Both Downward Spiral to Fragile and Fragile to With Teeth were about five and half years (the later being roughly two months longer).

[...] The marketing for Nine Inch Nails’ Year Zero is picking up steam after I noted it a few weeks ago. [...]
