Apple Abandons New PDX Store

It seems that the Portland Historic Landmarks Commission demanded so many changes in Apple’s plans for a new high profile non-mall store there that Apple has abandoned the project.

The second link discusses some of the problems behind the committee’s decisions. The way I see it, it just seems like a bad idea for citizen commissions to be handing down such harsh demands that businesses (which provide lots of tax revenue) are disinterested in opening in Portland.
